Theatre
The importance of drama and performing arts in education is significant.
Whether children have the opportunity to perform in theatre productions or help out behind the scenes, studying Drama and Performing Arts not only engages with the creative side of the brain, it also provides an ideal balance in students’ patterns of study.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School District provide an intense course of study and instruction in the dramatic arts from elementarty and middle school through high school advanced levels. Theater students participate in school-wide musicals and plays, assuming various roles as actor, director, dramaturg, playwright and technical crew. EBRPSS enjoys strong partnerships with the community providing students with increased opportunity to learn , experience , and participate in theatre at a professional level. Students also perform in city, county, state and national level festivals and productions.
The faculty in the theatre program have decades of experience as theatre educators, directors, designers, and professional actors. The majority have advanced degrees in theatre and all have established careers in theatre and theatre education. Collectively, the faculty has expertise in all styles and varieties of theatre from classical to modern dramatic repertoire and musicals. Members of the faculty have received numerous national awards and honors.
